Murasaki Mura Experience Kingdom Touch Tradition in a Ryukyu Village.
Yomitan | Ryukyu Traditional Craft Experiences | Pottery, Bingata & Sanshin
In a Ryukyu Village of Traditional Houses, 70 Types of Cultural Experiences.
Murasaki Mura Experience Kingdom is an experience-based theme park set amid the rich natural surroundings of Yomitan Village. The expansive grounds recreate a village from the Ryukyu Kingdom era, dotted with red-tiled traditional houses. Here, approximately 70 types of Okinawan traditional craft experiences are available, including pottery, Bingata dyeing, Sanshin (Okinawan lute), Ryukyu glass, weaving, indigo dyeing, and papermaking. Visitors can actually try their hand at artisan techniques and create their own works—making it Okinawa's premier cultural experience facility.
The grounds are maintained as "Murasaki Mura Village," and the unique charm lies in exploring workshops while wandering through labyrinth-like alleyways. Designed to blend naturally into the landscape where Okinawa's people have lived for centuries, it has earned high praise as an authentic cultural space that transcends a mere theme park. The fact that both children and adults can each choose their preferred experience is another reason for its popularity.
From Naha, it takes approximately 50 minutes via the expressway. The Yomitan Village area in central Okinawa is home to a cluster of distinctive spots alongside Murasaki Mura, including Zanpa Cape, Yachimun no Sato, and the Ryukyu Glass Village. SUI TAXI's "Yomitan & Central Culture Course" for spending a full day exploring the area has been gaining popularity.
Bingata dyeing is a representative traditional dyeing technique of Okinawa. Known for its vivid colors and bold patterns.
Highlights and Experience Menu Guide
Among the approximately 70 experience options, the four most popular are pottery (Yachimun), Bingata dyeing, Sanshin performance, and Ryukyu glassblowing. In the pottery experience, you can create vessels utilizing the unique texture of Okinawan clay and glaze colors, with the option to have finished pieces shipped to you later. Bingata dyeing uses stencils and pigments to dye patterns onto fabric, and the completed work can be taken home as a souvenir. The Sanshin experience offers careful instruction from basic posture to simple songs, allowing you to touch the depths of Okinawan music.
Another charm of Murasaki Mura lies in the "strolling" experience of walking through the entire village. The stone-paved alleys, red-tiled roofs, rows of Fukugi trees, and stone-wall-enclosed scenery transport you as if you have time-slipped back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Take your time at rest spaces and dining facilities between workshops, and soak in the flow of Okinawan time. A half day spent in the clear air and lush greenery of Yomitan Village will become a deeply memorable part of your trip.

The Sanshin experience offers careful instruction from basics to Okinawan folk songs.

Ryukyu glass is known for its vivid colors. Create original works through glassblowing.
