Zanpa Cape To the White Lighthouse and the Cliffs.
Yomitan Scenic Spot | 30m Cliffs | Central Okinawa
Cliffs and Lighthouse Create the Finest Views in Central Okinawa.
Zanpa Cape is a spectacular promontory located at the western tip of Yomitan Village in central Okinawa. Dramatic cliffs approximately 30 meters high stretch for about 2 km, and the white Zanpa Cape Lighthouse (30 meters tall, open for climbing) standing atop them is one of Okinawa's most iconic landmarks. The deep blue of the East China Sea seen from atop the cliffs and the powerful sight of rough waves crashing against the rocks are among the essential highlights of central Okinawa sightseeing. The area is maintained as Zanpa Cape Park, with walking paths along the cliffs for fully enjoying the spectacular views.
Zanpa Cape is particularly famous for its combination of lighthouse and sunset. On clear evenings (around 4-6 PM), the setting sun on the horizon and the silhouette of the white lighthouse create a fantastical contrast. During this time, many photography enthusiasts and couples visit, earning it top ratings as one of Okinawa's finest sunset spots.
Yomitan Village has a history of being under US military occupation, and historical sites from that era are still scattered around Zanpa Cape. Yomitan is also famous as a production area for "Yachimun" (Okinawan pottery), and the popular course involves visiting "Yachimun no Sato" for workshop strolling after cape sightseeing. Zakimi Castle (World Heritage Site) is also within a 10-minute drive, making this an ideal area as a base for central Okinawa tourism.

Highlights Around Zanpa Cape
Zanpa Cape Lighthouse is open to the public (fee applies), and climbing to the top offers 360-degree views of the East China Sea. The walking path along the cliffs is maintained as an approximately 1 km strolling course, where walking in the sea breeze is refreshing and you can feel the power of the cliffs up close. Near the cape's tip, Okinawa's largest shisa (guardian lion) statue, the "Zanpa Giant Shisa," is installed and is a popular photo spot.
Nearby attractions include the World Heritage "Zakimi Castle Ruins," the pottery village "Yachimun no Sato," a ground golf course, and resort hotels. The "Central Course (5-6 hours)" combining Zanpa Cape with American Village (Chatan Town), about 20-30 minutes by car, is one of SUI TAXI's popular routes. Manzamo (Onna Village) is also close, allowing efficient touring of central Okinawa's key spots.
