Located in Chatan Town, Nakagami District, Okinawa, American Village is a unique entertainment zone redeveloped on land returned from a former US military base. Distinctive buildings inspired by American pop culture line the streets, drawing a wide range of visitors from local youths and families to international tourists. Shopping malls, restaurants, bars, cafés, and cinemas are all gathered here—you could spend an entire day without getting bored.
Especially popular is the area around "Depot Island" at dusk. The sight of colorful neons lit against an orange sky and the East China Sea is utterly photogenic. The unique contrast between Okinawa's blue sea and the American-style buildings creates a charm found nowhere else. Located about 30 minutes from central Naha via the expressway, it is a classic central Okinawa sightseeing spot.
The half-day course combining American Village with Manzamo is especially well-received. The course—enjoying the ocean views at Manzamo in the morning and shopping and sunsets at American Village in the afternoon—delivers a dynamic Okinawa experience. Being able to move smoothly through the congested Chatan area in the evening without a rental car is one of the great advantages of a charter taxi.

How to Enjoy American Village
Depot Island is the main area of American Village, where Mediterranean-style white buildings line the streets and house cafés, select shops and restaurants. It is especially atmospheric around sunset, and many visitors enjoy taking photos of the sun setting over the East China Sea from here.
The former landmark Ferris wheel "SKYMAX60" was demolished in 2022 due to aging, and a hotel is currently under construction on the site. The shopping area gathers local brands, American goods, Okinawan souvenirs and outlet items, and many shops stay open late, so you can take your time browsing even after dinner.

American Village by Taxi
The estimated fare for a round-trip charter from Naha to American Village (3–4 hours) starts from ¥21,000 (tax included, expressway tolls separate). The "West Coast Course (5–6 hours)" combined with Manzamo starts from approximately ¥35,000. Evening visit plans are also available, and transfers from Onna Village resort hotels are also handled.
The Chatan area becomes very congested on weekends and holidays in the evening. With a charter taxi, there's no stress finding parking. While the driver waits, guests can leisurely stroll, shop, and dine.

Charter fares are time-based at ¥7,000 per hour (¥3,500 per additional 30 minutes booked in advance). Extensions made after departure are ¥4,200 per 30 minutes. Admission, expressway tolls and parking are charged at cost. For charters of 6 hours or more we take a 30% deposit when you book, and the balance is paid on the day. Minimum booking times depend on where you start: from 3 hours in the south and central area, 4 hours in Onna Village and 6 hours in the north, and 8 hours for trips that cross between the south and the north. Where a long transfer is involved, the transfer fare for that stretch is the floor for the price.

How much does a taxi from Naha to American Village cost?
A round-trip charter of 3 to 4 hours starts from ¥21,000. That is the price for one Alphard carrying up to five guests, so with five people it works out from ¥4,200 each. Expressway tolls and parking are charged at cost.
How many hours should we book?
Walking round, browsing and eating takes two to three hours, and the drive is a little over an hour in total, so 3 to 4 hours is the usual booking. Add Manzamo and it becomes 5 to 6 hours.
Can we go in the evening?
Yes. The Ferris wheel lights up after dark. Leaving Naha around 4pm gives you sunset at Sunset Beach and then Depot Island in the evening.
Can we stop there on the way from the airport?
Yes. The airport is about 30 minutes away. Plenty of guests eat here on arrival day before checking in. Your luggage stays in the car.
Is parking difficult?
Weekends and holidays get busy. With a charter there is no hunting for a space; the driver drops you at the entrance and waits nearby.
