Umikaji Terrace | Airplane Views | Sunset Spot
Just 5 Minutes from Naha Airport, A Mediterranean-Style Resort.
Senaga Island is a small island in Tomigusuku City, just a 5-minute drive from Naha Airport. Known for the "Ryukyu Onsen Senagajima Hotel" that opened in 2012 and "Umikaji Terrace" that opened in 2015, the sight of white Mediterranean-style buildings lining the steep slopes has become a huge sensation on social media. While in Okinawa, you'll feel as if you've been transported to a Mediterranean resort with its exotic atmosphere.
Umikaji Terrace is a resort mall with approximately 30 shops offering local gourmet food, sundries, and cafes. Enjoying lunch or cafe time on the terrace while watching airplanes take off and land is extremely popular, and at dusk, the contrast between the sunset and planes landing at Naha Airport creates a spectacular view. It has become a staple as the "last sightseeing stop before heading to the airport" on the final day of a trip.
Also easily accessible from Naha city at about 20 minutes by car, it is perfect for a half-day sightseeing trip. The island also features a spa at the Senagajima Hotel, where you can relax and refresh between sightseeing activities. By combining it with airport transfers, you can add a touch of luxury to both the beginning and end of your Okinawa trip.

How to Enjoy Senaga Island
Senaga Island sits close to the end of Naha Airport's runway, and is a place where you can watch planes take off and land at close range. Especially at dusk, the sight of an aircraft descending against the setting sun is striking, and it is also popular as a photography spot.
Umikaji Terrace is lined with shops where you can experience Okinawan culture, including tacos, Ryukyu glass, Okinawan ice cream and shisa workshops. It is also a good place to look for last-minute souvenirs at the end of your trip. Cafe time while watching the sunset over the East China Sea is something special. The exact sunset time changes with the season, so we will let you know the time on the day.

Getting to Senaga Island by Taxi
Naha Airport to Senaga Island is from ¥21,000. The plan of stopping by on the way back from airport transfer is popular. Plans including 1-2 hours of waiting time are also available. On the final day of your trip, after hotel checkout, a particularly popular course is stopping at Senaga Island on the way to the airport, enjoying lunch or cafe time, then continuing to the airport.
Umikaji Terrace's parking lot can get crowded on weekends and holidays, but with SUI TAXI, there's no parking worry. You can leisurely explore the island while your driver waits.
— Great Value Combined with Airport Transfer: The set plan of being picked up at Naha Airport, stopping at Senaga Island, and then being taken to your hotel is very popular. You can start enjoying Okinawa the moment you step off the plane.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a taxi from Naha to Senagajima cost?
A round-trip charter of 3 hours starts from ¥21,000. That is the price for one Alphard carrying up to five guests, so with five people it works out from ¥4,200 each. One to two hours of waiting is covered within that slot.
Can we stop here before our flight?
Yes, and it is the most common way guests use it. Senagajima is five minutes from Naha Airport, so a meal at Umikaji Terrace after check-out fits neatly before departure. We work the timing back from your flight.
How long do we need there?
Walking the terraces and eating takes one to two hours. If you are staying for sunset we arrive about 30 minutes before.
Is it true that planes pass overhead?
Yes. The island sits beside the runway, so aircraft come in low above you, sometimes every few minutes.
What time is sunset?
Around 7pm in summer and 6pm in winter. The sun drops into the sea to the west, and the upper steps of the terrace give the clearest view.
